Twelve Tuesdays.
Two right answers.

Book a weekly course and two of the dates land on days the clinic is shut. What should happen next depends entirely on who is doing the booking, so Qlynic does two different things.

Ten are booked. The two closed dates are skipped and named on the confirmation. A dead end at midnight helps nobody.

The hold

Nobody can sit on your 10:15.

A held slot is a slot nobody else can book. So it starts at 8 minutes, stretches by 5 whenever the patient asks, and stops after 4 asks. Then it goes back.

Eight minutes to find your card, choose a time and confirm.

  • The ceiling is not a round number.

8 plus 4 times 5 is 28. A fifth ask would be 33, which does not fit. The 2 minutes left over are the proof somebody worked it out.

  • An expired hold is not a booking.

The slot returns to the picker the moment the hold lapses. Nothing half-written is left behind for somebody to clean up on Monday.

  • Everyone else sees the truth.

A live hold hides the slot from every other patient and from the front desk. Two people cannot be told the same time is free.

Rescheduling

There is no second system.

Most patient portals are a simplified copy of the booking system, and simplified means wrong. This one is the same code. Shifts, exceptions, blackouts and other people’s live holds, all of it, from a link in an email.

  • 01

She is not blocked by herself.

Her current booking is taken out of the clash check. Otherwise moving from 10:15 to 10:30 would collide with the appointment she is trying to move.

  • 02

A group moves together. A series moves one date.

Three people booked into one slot move as one slot, and everybody is told. A weekly course moves the single session, not the other eleven.

  • 03

    The link is single use.

It expires, and it will not open twice. Every move and every cancellation is written to the appointment’s audit log with the time it happened.

The whole point

Nobody asks about any of this.

You will ask about price, and billing, and whether it does records. You will not ask what happens to the eleventh session when the tenth lands on a holiday. You find that out in March.

  1. What happens to the eleventh session if the tenth will not fit? Depends who booked it. That is on purpose.
  2. How long can somebody hold my 10:15 without taking it? Twenty-eight minutes. Never twenty-nine.
  3. Does the link in the patient’s email see what my front desk sees? The same five checks. The same slots.
